This is a story about a serious, lengthy and debilitating illness. Of greater importance, it is a story of eventual healing. The illness, when finally diagnosed, was described by medical professionals as “untreatable” and “incurable.” It’s a story of searching for healing and for the meaning behind the entire experience while enduring seemingly unending pain and suffering. It is also a story of intensive spiritual searching that became integral to my healing.
My name is Lou Fleming. I live in Washington State, in the United States. As of this posting at the start of 2025, I am 75 years old, married for nearly 16 years to my second wife, adoptive-father and stepfather to three grown children, and grandfather to ten. In many ways, I’ve lived a blessed life. But like many people, the part of my life that I’m writing about hasn’t been easy. Even so, I wholeheartedly believe the entire experience has been worth every moment of all the pain, challenge and difficulty. My journey through this illness, and my search for healing, is the subject of this blog.
I’m writing this blog in a spirit of gratitude and service. My journey has finally brought me to the complete healing of my “incurable” illness. I’m sharing my story with the hope that it may offer support and inspiration to readers of this blog, and in the process, may be genuinely helpful to many. It’s been a long journey. So, it isn’t a short or simple story. It involves a lot of searching, trial and error, and more searching covering the majority of my life. I invite you to read what I offer here with an open mind, and if what I offer resonates with you, I encourage you to stay with my story all the way through to the end. If you choose to do so, I believe it will be well worth the time and effort involved.
If you happen to come upon my blog after it’s been available for a while, I encourage you to read the blog posts in the order they have been presented. I intend to make my posts available on a schedule of approximately one blog post per week.
Wherever you are on your healing journey, I wish you peace, healing, freedom from fear and guilt, and progress on your spiritual path, if that is what you are seeking. I hope my story can be helpful to you as you continue to live your own healing story.
With respect and gratitude,
Lou Fleming
